Microsoft’s Xbox One was the best-selling game console in the US in July, according to the latest figures from NPD.

This is actually the first time since October 2015 that the Xbox One has managed to outsell the Sony PlayStation 4 in the US. One of the biggest reasons behind the achievement could be the significant discounts offered on the Xbox One last month, thanks to the announcement of the new Xbox One S.

It remains to be seen if Microsoft will be able to hold on to the No.1 spot in August as well, although the launch of the Xbox One S could perhaps help the Redmond based company.

Xbox marketing boss Mike Nichols also revealed that total gaming hours on Xbox consoles went up 18 percent over last year, reaching 1.55 billion hours.
