The Xbox One is still going to receive backwards compatibility support for the original Xbox and that feature is set to arrive this year. Microsoft announced Xbox support was coming during E3 this summer, but it hasn’t said much since then. Xbox boss Phil Spencer has confirmed it’s on track for its 2017 debut.

I have a little dashboard I go to and I can see all the games, where they are in getting approvals in the pipeline. I know the games that are coming for the original Xbox, but I don’t think we’ve announced them all. We have to do this in partnership with partners, but we’re still on track,
– Spencer

Spencer also implied there will be some interesting capabilities that exist with compatibility on the upgraded Xbox One X.
