Electric vehicles are a big part of Volkswagen’s future and some of them will be built in the United States in the coming years. The automaker wants to begin EV production in the US by 2021. It previously revealed it hopes to sell 1 million EVs globally by 2025.

Most of Volkswagen’s manufacturing takes place in Europe. Outside of its home region, it has some facilities in Mexico and one factory in the US. Volkswagen will be boosting its non-EV manufacturing in the US as well.

Volkswagen says electric vehicles will become the “strategic core of the VW brand” over time.
