Tesla’s Autopilot system will eventually offer full self-driving capabilities and it’ll take a step in that direction next month. Now that every new Tesla vehicle includes radar equipment and eight cameras, a software update is headed out that’ll begin to utilize the new hardware.

It’s still not legal to let your car drive on its own, but each car will one day be capable of fully autonomous driving, something Tesla has demonstrated in a couple videos.

Vehicles will receive the Autopilot 8.1 update sometime in December. It’s an “enhanced” version of the software and should include some parking and steering features. More upgrades will be made on a monthly basis following 8.1. Full autonomy will technically be enabled by the time we reach 2017 or 2018.
