Details on what is needed to effectively use the PSVR have been released by Sony. On the Playstation Asia website, an FAQ has been uploaded which gives users vital information. Some of the details are self explanatory (such as the need for a PS4). However, an important piece of information has been revealed: how much space is needed to play VR games.
PSVR users will need a 1.9 by 3 metre space to use the VR headset. This means a space that is 1.9 metres wide and 3 metres deep. This does not mean that users need to be 3 metres away from the Playstation Camera (also a requirement), but it is the required space needed for effective movement. Users will have to make sure to measure out the space before installation, just like the HTC Vive needs for its lighthouse sensors. Sony does not say that users need to purchase the Playstation Neo for VR however.
Sony have also unveiled certain details about their target audience. There is an age limit on the PSVR, with Sony saying that users under the age of 12 should not be allowed to use the VR headset. Furthermore, Sony recommends users remain seated while using the VR headset.
Sony’s most important advice however is for potential users to do their research. The blog states, “As there are individual difference in viewing 3D graphics and feeling of wearing VR headset, please try PS VR at shops or trial events before purchase.”
