A Tesla solar cell production facility in New York is receiving a $256 million investment from Japan’s Panasonic. Photovoltaic (PV) cell production is scheduled to begin in the summer of 2017 and the facility will offer one gigawatt of module production by 2019.
Panasonic is already working with the auto and solar company. They announced a solar-centric partnership in October, but the financial details of the agreement weren’t discussed.
They’ve been in close cooperation since Panasonic will exclusively provide the batteries for the upcoming Model 3, just as it has done for the Model S and Model X.
