To better compete with relatively inexpensive Chromebooks, Microsoft might reduce its Windows 10 licensing fee for OEMs. A supply chain source claims the fee will drop for notebooks measuring under 14.1-inches that are set to be released this year.
Microsoft’s new Windows 10 licensing fee will depend on screen size, notebook type, notebook hardware, and the market it’s targeting. It’ll reportedly be introduced on March 1.
Chrome OS-based laptops have taken over a large portion of the low-end market, putting Microsoft in a position to look for ways to be more competitive.
