McLaren has confirmed Apple did visit the automaker and was interested in its activities, but it never actually offered to strategically invest money or make an acquisition. Mike Flewitt, CEO of McLaren, told Reuters that the companies were speaking to each other a couple months ago.

This confirms earlier reports from the Financial Times, Bloomberg, and The New York Times, all of which said talks were underway and Apple was considering either an investment or acquisition. Most of the reports leaned towards an investment rather than a full takeover.

There wasn’t a bid from Apple…They visited. We talked. We talked about what they did. We talked about what we did. They toured. It never matured to a definitive proposition.
