Respawn Entertainment’s Titanfall 2 isn’t a native 4K game on the PlayStation 4 Pro (PS4 Pro). Drew McCoy, a producer, says native 4K rendering would require too much processing power and he believes other top games will also avoiding running natively at the resolution.
It’s not native 4K. And I would be surprised if anyone saw native 4K with AAA level games any time soon. It just takes so much processing power. It’s unbelievable amounts of just GPU grunt to do that [native 4K].
The lack of native 4K with Titanfall 2 fits with Sony’s own statements about the console and the gaming market. Andrew House, president of the PlayStation division, previously noted the majority of games will only be upscaled to 4K.
McCoy says the PS4 Pro comes with some extra power that’ll enable the game to have high-res shadows and possibly higher particle counts. It’ll also more reliably hit its 60 FPS target at a higher resolution.
Titanfall 2 arrives October 28 and the PS4 Pro will be out on November 10.
