German regulators have ordered Tesla to stop using “Autopilot” in advertisements for its vehicles. This move comes shortly after the country’s transportation authority (KBA) described Autopilot as a “significant traffic hazard.” Tesla’s advertisements in Germany can no longer use the term “Autopilot” because regulators believe it’s misleading.

KBA says a letter has been sent to Tesla regarding the matter.

In order to prevent misunderstanding and incorrect customers’ expectations, we demand that the misleading term ‘Autopilot’ is no longer used in advertising the system.

Tesla has repeatedly explained it tells consumers that they must remain alert when using Autopilot and that the system doesn’t replace human driving. However, Germany’s KBA doesn’t feel Tesla’s usual warnings are sufficient.
