Facebook is working with Unity to build out its online gaming experience and introduce a Steam-like downloadable gaming platform. The partnership with Unity makes it easier for developers to bring their games to Facebook’s platform. Until August 31, developers can apply for a limited alpha of Unity 5.4 that’ll make creating and exporting games to Facebook easier.

On the user side, the desktop platform may eventually come to include bigger games than Facebook has been known for. Unity says it’ll probably come to feature more “immersive” games like those found on consoles and Steam. It’ll initially contain a large number of casual games.

The desktop platform is also going to support games ported from iOS and Android.
